buys of 2018


When consumer review company Canstar released the results of their best in beauty survey for 2018, we were intrigued to suss out how our favourite products performed.




Canstar collated thousands of user reviews to calculate the very best performing products on shelves now. In addition to testing overall customer satisfaction, products were scored on everything from their scent and feel, to how pretty they look in your shower. Here we reveal the supermarket brands that punch well above their weight.

1 of 9: Best shampoo: Organic Care, $3.50

This supermarket staple scored top of the class for softness, scent, effectiveness and value for money, and at less than $5 a bottle, you'd be crazy not to give it a go.



2 of 9: Best conditioner: Sunsilk $5.50

Not all conditioners are created equal but it was Sunsilk who outperformed 13 other hopefuls, with five-star ratings for softness and overall customer satisfaction.



3 of 9: Best face moisturiser: Nivea, $12.75

An oldie but a goodie, Nivea moisturiser out performed L'Oreal, Sukin, Dove, Olay and Neutrogena to take out the top spot, getting five stars for effectiveness, consistency, value for money and overall customer satisfaction.



4 of 9: Best body wash: Organic care, $6

Organic Care was the only brand to bag two awards, also taking out the top spot for best body wash. More than 1000 respondents raved about the consistency, value, packaging and the way it feels on skin.



5 of 9: Best fake tan: Bondi Sands, $16

Bondi Sands topped the list for a faux glow, scoring five stars for value, application, quality and drying time.



6 of 9: Best body moisturiser: Sukin, $17.99

The priciest winner in the line-up, Sukin's body moisturiser beat out seven other brands including Aveeno, Vaseline, Cetaphil and Nivea with top marks for customer satisfaction, scent, effectiveness and consistency.



7 of 9: Added extras: Tresemme repair and protect 7 shampoo, $10.99

The new TRESemmé Repair & Protect 7 range contains a breakthrough Fibre Active technology with Biotin that helps to repair damaged bonds within the hair, just like professional salon treatments.



8 of 9: Added extras: Vaseline lip therapy tins, $4.99

The cute, compact tins are a cult-favourite in the UK and have been reformulated for the Aussie climate. They come in four fun colours: Blue (Original Formula), Green (Aloe), Pink (Rosy Lips) and Brown (Cocoa Butter).
